What is Industrial and Commercial Energy Storage

The industrial and commercial energy storage system consists of five basic parts, including: solar cell array, grid-connected inverter, BMS management system, battery pack, and AC load. The system adopts the hybrid power supply of photovoltaic and energy storage system. When the mains power is normal, the photovoltaic grid-connected system and the mains supply power for the load; when the mains are out of power, the energy storage system and the photovoltaic grid-connected system jointly supply power, and the system is also equipped with monitoring, heat dissipation, fire protection, security and other devices, the whole system is controlled by the monitoring and management system, and the work of each component is coordinated through the network.

Microgrids generally have two operation modes: grid-connected operation mode and islander operation mode. Grid-connected operation mode

In the grid-connected operation mode, numerous distributed small-capacity power sources are merged into the power consumption side, which leads to increased uncertainty in the power system, and intensifies the contradiction between the balance and coordination of power generation and power consumption. Effective means, the distributed photovoltaic or wind power in the microgrid has the characteristics of randomness, volatility and intermittence. The energy storage system can smooth the power output of these distributed power sources, maintain the stability of the microgrid, and cooperate with the optimal scheduling of EMS. When the island operation mode of the economic operation of the microgrid can be realized, the microgrid loses the reference of the large grid, and the energy storage system can assume the role of the main power source of the voltage and frequency reference.

Island operation mode

The energy of microgrid in isolated island comes from distributed electric energy and energy storage system, and the output fluctuation of distributed energy makes it difficult to match the load demand. Therefore, the microgrid system is equipped with a certain capacity of energy storage system to suppress the fluctuation and improve the reliability of power supply.

The energy storage power station (system) mainly cooperates with photovoltaic grid-connected power generation applications. Therefore, the entire system includes photovoltaic module arrays, photovoltaic controllers, battery packs, battery management systems (BMS), inverters and the corresponding energy storage power station joint control and dispatch power generation systems, etc.

Large-capacity battery energy storage system

The large-capacity battery energy storage system has been applied in the power system for more than 20 years. In the early days, it was mainly used for frequency regulation, hot backup, voltage regulation and backup of isolated power grids. A certain amount of research has been carried out on the application of battery energy storage systems in the grid connection of new energy sources. In the late 1990s, Germany’s 1MW photovoltaic power station in Herne and 2MW wind farm in Bocho1t were equipped with battery energy storage systems with a capacity of 1.2 MWh, which provided peak shaving, uninterrupted power supply and improved power quality. Since 2003, Japan has installed a 6MW/6 MWh all-vanadium redox flow battery (VRB) energy storage system in the Hokkaido 30.6MW wind farm to smooth output power fluctuations. On August 18, 2014, the 220 KV smart substation of China’s wind and solar storage and transmission demonstration project was successfully launched.
